Stanton Bradford Smith

 

Stan Smith has built extensive Public Affairs, Government Relations, Investor Relations and Communications Marketing experience through his involvement in the political, governmental, professional sports and corporate arenas. A veteran of private enterprise and charity involvement, Stan has handled PR, and investor relations for ten publicly traded companies over the last twelve years.

Stan owned and operated JebWear, the exclusive manufacturer and distributor of former Florida Governor Jeb Bush clothing and memorabilia and held a similar agreement with current Florida Governor Charlie Crist and served on the Crist Administration Transition Team.

 

Stan was appointed and served for two years as a member of the State of Florida’s Internet Task Force, which promoted the emergence of Florida as the high-tech capital for business related to state-of- the-art telecommunications. Stan has been active on the Board as an associate member of the Florida Association of Broadcasters.

 

Stan formerly headed up the brand creation and rollout of MyFlorida.com - the State of Florida’s Official Web Portal. The MyFlorida brand now appears on more than 14 million auto license plates. Previously, he served for more than four years as Director of Communications at Huizenga Holdings, Inc. (HHI), and personal spokesman and speech writer for H. Wayne Huizenga, world renowned entrepreneur who built three Fortune 500 companies; Waste Management, Blockbuster and AutoNation. Stan conducted media relations and internal communications between HHI and five NYSE public companies, various private companies and the Miami Dolphins, Florida Panthers and Florida Marlins sports franchises.

 

Prior to working for Mr. Huizenga, Stan held a number of positions in the public affairs arena, including Director of Communications for the Florida Department of State in 1995, and Press Secretary and spokesman for the Florida Republican Party from 1989 until 1992. He was also Communications Field Advisor in 11 southern states for the Republican National Committee under the late Chairman Lee Atwater in 1989 and played a lead role in the 1989 special election of Ileana Ros-Lehtinen as the first Cuban- American member of the United States Congress.

 

Stan is a former State (Kentucky) Communications Director for George H.W. Bush’s 1988 campaign for President. Prior to that he served as a writer, narrator and publicist for Kentucky Educational Television and is a 1986 graduate of Wheaton College in Illinois. Stan is active in the charitable arena as past Chairman of the At&T Jeb Bush Florida Classic featuring golf, fishing, tennis and gala benefiting Cystic Fibrosis since 1996.
